Flying EgyptAir Business Class from Tunis to Cairo was a unique experience that blended nostalgia, comfort, and excellent service. Traveling on their Boeing 737-8, I was curious to see how the airline would perform on this 3-hour journey, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised.

Warm Welcome Onboard

The journey started positively, with the crew warmly welcoming me aboard. What stood out most was their openness to me filming during the flight. This simple yet significant gesture showcased their confidence in the service they provide and their transparency—something not all airlines offer. It immediately set a positive tone for the flight.

Flight and Aircraft Information

Date: WEDNESDAY 04-DEC-2024 at 11:50 CET
Flight: Egypt Air 844
From: TUNIS, TUNISIA TERMINAL M
To: CAIRO, EGYPT TERMINAL 3
Aircraft: Boeing 737-800 (twin-jet)
Speed: 489 mph
Distance: Actual: 1,375 mi (Direct: 1,304 mi)

Aircraft and Seating

While the aircraft was slightly older, it was kept impeccably clean. The plane’s age turned out to be an advantage. The business class seats were more spacious than you’d typically find on newer planes. With plenty of legroom and wide seats, it was easy to settle in comfortably and move around without hassle.

A particularly nostalgic detail was the presence of an ashtray—a rare sight in modern aviation. It was a blast from the past that reminded me of how far air travel has evolved.

Dining Experience

One of the most memorable aspects of the flight was the dining experience. EgyptAir offered three meal choices: chicken, lamb, or fish. I opted for the lamb skewers with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The dish was well-prepared and satisfying, with flavours that complemented each other nicely.

The meal service started with a seafood platter as the appetizer, featuring prawn and smoked salmon. It was delightful and elevated the dining experience, showcasing the airline’s ability to deliver quality meals even on a short-haul flight.

While EgyptAir does not serve alcohol, their selection of non-alcoholic beverages was more than adequate, and I didn’t find myself missing anything.

In-Flight Entertainment (IFE)

I was pleasantly surprised to find a working in-flight entertainment (IFE) system for a flight of this duration. It provided enough options to keep me entertained throughout the journey, adding a layer of comfort to the overall experience.

Areas for Improvement

No experience is without its minor flaws, and EgyptAir’s maintenance could use some attention. I noticed a few items that were either slightly broken or taped over. While these details didn’t significantly impact my comfort, addressing them would undoubtedly enhance the overall experience.

Service vs. Luxury

It’s important to remember that EgyptAir operates on a budget different from that of luxury carriers like Emirates or Qatar Airways. They may not have the glitz and glamour of those airlines, but they make up for it with excellent service, thoughtful amenities, and genuine hospitality.

What stood out for me was the crew’s transparency and willingness to allow filming onboard. This reflects a level of confidence and authenticity that sets EgyptAir apart. In contrast, some airlines prohibit filming, raising questions about what they might try to hide.

Airport Lounge In Tunis

The Privilege Lounge in Tunis: Room for Improvement

While my flight with EgyptAir Business Class from Tunis to Cairo was enjoyable, the lounge experience at Tunis Airport left much to be desired. The Privilege Lounge, used by EgyptAir, is not directly managed by the airline but is a shared facility utilized by several other airlines.

Unfortunately, the lounge did not meet the standard one might expect when flying in business class. From limited amenities to an overall lack of comfort, the experience was underwhelming. However, it’s important to note that this may be the only lounge option available at Tunis Airport for EgyptAir and other carriers.

Having also accessed the Privilege Lounge on a previous flight with Tunisair, I noticed the same issues, which seem to stem from the lounge itself rather than the airlines using it. While disappointing, I can’t fault EgyptAir too much for this aspect, as it’s likely out of their control.

For future travellers departing from Tunis Airport, I’d recommend managing expectations regarding lounge quality. While the flight with EgyptAir was fantastic, the ground experience could use significant improvements.

Final Thoughts

Flying EgyptAir Business Class from Tunis to Cairo was a pleasant experience overall. Despite the age of the aircraft and some minor maintenance issues, the excellent service, comfortable seating, and delicious meals made it a journey to remember.

Would I fly EgyptAir again? Absolutely. Their focus on service and hospitality left a lasting impression. EgyptAir is a fantastic choice for travellers seeking a reliable, transparent airline that offers genuine care.
