✈️ SGD $700 RETURN from Singapore to Cairo with Etihad Airways! Was it worth it? After some disappointing Economy flights recently, I wasn't expecting much. But my experience flying Etihad Airways EY499 from Singapore to Abu Dhabi on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner genuinely surprised me! And considering I paid approximately SGD $700 RETURN from Singapore to Cairo via Abu Dhabi, I thought this was incredible value. Here's what impressed me: 💺 Comfortable Economy seats: The adjustable headrest wings fold inwards, allowing you to rest your head against them while sleeping. I've never experienced anything quite like this on my previous flights! 🛏️ Premium-feeling bedding: A surprisingly large, plush pillow and an excellent blanket. Etihad even provided a complimentary tote bag! 🍗 Fantastic Economy food: Roasted chicken with rice and mixed vegetables, followed by mango pudding. Honestly, one of the best Economy Class meals I've personally had! 👏 Excellent cabin crew: Warm, friendly and attentive throughout the flight. I was particularly impressed by how regularly they checked and cleaned the lavatories. 🌙 Comfortable night flight: The overall experience felt noticeably better than several Economy flights I've taken recently. But there was ONE disappointment… On a flight lasting approximately 6½ hours, there was only one meal service. Personally, I would've appreciated a snack or something small before landing. 💰 What did I pay? Approximately SGD $700 for the entire return journey: 🇸🇬 Singapore → Abu Dhabi → Cairo 🇪🇬 🇪🇬 Cairo → Abu Dhabi → Singapore 🇸🇬 This was a basic Economy fare, without optional extras such as advance seat selection or additional date-change flexibility. My verdict? For the price I paid, Etihad delivered excellent value. Between the comfortable seat, adjustable headrest, plush pillow, excellent food and attentive crew, this barely felt like Economy! The beef was tender, the ingredients tasted fresh and that spicy salsa gave it a lovely kick. I finally tried Texas Roadhouse at The Galleria Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi 🇦🇪 and I came for one thing: their fall-off-the-bone beef ribs! But I wasn’t expecting the FREE yeast rolls with whipped honey cinnamon butter to be this good. 😳 They were warm, soft and slightly crispy outside, and they’re refillable! Then my HALF portion of beef ribs arrived… and honestly, it looked like a full portion anywhere else. 😂 The meat was falling off the bone, the BBQ sauce made them even better, and the service was excellent. I was driving from Switzerland into Germany and decided to film exactly what happens when you cross the border by car. Switzerland isn’t a member of the European Union, while Germany is. However, both countries are part of the Schengen Area. Switzerland is also outside the EU customs union, which means customs checks can still take place. So did I have to stop? Show my passport? Go through a checkpoint? I deliberately chose to fly Qantas from Singapore to Auckland via Brisbane because both flights were scheduled on the Airbus A330. But I wasn't expecting the two flights to feel this different. ✈️ QF52 — Singapore → Brisbane | 13 September 2026 The cabin felt very dated, my entertainment system wasn't working properly, the food was disappointing, and for someone my size the Economy seat was extremely tight. I also had an uncomfortable interaction with the cabin manager, who touched my arm and tried to push it inward before speaking to me. I would have had absolutely no issue if I'd simply been asked to move. After a 2h 15m scheduled connection in Brisbane, it was time for the second flight. ✈️ QF119 — Brisbane → Auckland | 14 September 2026 And this was almost a complete 180°. The entertainment worked, the overall experience felt much better, and most importantly, the crew were friendly and welcoming. The food still didn't impress me and the Economy seat was still tight, but the difference between the two flights was remarkable. Same airline. Same journey. Both booked on the A330. I’d wanted to try YOMI in Takapuna for ages, but when I drove past on Thursday night, the queue was insane! 😳 So I came back early Saturday and finally got to try it. I went with vanilla + Biscoff frozen yoghurt, then completely lost control with the toppings 😂 Biscoff cookie dough, chocolate fish, Biscoff crunch, fudge, Toffee Pops, caramel slice, banana crunch, Biscoff sauce, butterscotch caramel… and then I discovered the Bueno fountain! 🤤 ⚖️ Around 400g 💰 NZ$19.11 📍 YOMI, Takapuna, Auckland 🇳🇿 It definitely wasn’t the prettiest cup I’ve ever made… but it tasted AMAZING.
