Boms and Buns in Joo Chiat is one of those tiny neighbourhood spots that you could easily walk past, but trust me, you should not. I was exploring Joo Chiat, looking for cool places to film and eat, and I ended up stopping outside the tiny shop. There was no seating, and filming here looked like a challenge, so for a moment I thought about walking away. Something told me to go in, and thank goodness I did.
The moment I stepped in, the display stopped me. Pastries everywhere. Glossy, shiny, warm and inviting. You can tell immediately that everything here is made with care. But one item grabbed my attention instantly—the Sticky Pecan Bun.
If you love pastries or anything sweet, this one deserves your full attention. The Sticky Pecan Bun at Boms and Buns is a perfectly baked roll topped with a generous layer of caramelised pecans and a gooey, velvety syrup. It looks like a cinnamon roll, but instead of icing, you have a sticky pecan glaze that melts the moment you bite into it. Sweet, nutty and rich without being overwhelming. I loved every bite, and the only challenge was reminding myself to share it with my wife.
Since my wife was with me, we decided to try another itinerary to show more variety. She chose the Rocher Bo,m, inspired by the famous Ferrero Rocher. Once you see it, you will understand instantly. The shell is coated in an almond chocolate glaze, and inside you get a whipped chocolate-hazelnut ganache and a hazelnut praline centre. It is the ultimate upgrade for a chocolate-hazelnut dessert. When you crack through that outer shell, you get a wave of creamy chocolate-hazelnut filling that tastes even better than a Rocher.
Boms and Buns also offers other popular items such as the Cinnamon Bun, Chocolate Hazelnut Bun and Truffle Mushroom Bun. Everything pairs beautifully with their coffee, and the entire menu is available for online ordering, delivery, or in-store at their Joo Chiat Road location.
What I loved most about this place is that it is small and humble yet delivers robust flavours. The Sticky Pecan Bun is honestly one of the best pastries I have had in Singapore. The Rocher Bom is a must-try for chocolate fans, and its overall quality makes it a spot I would return to without a second thought.
If you are exploring Joo Chiat or looking for desserts in Singapore, then Boms and Buns should be on your list. Their pastries are beautiful to film and even better to eat.
