Manu is one of those places you could easily miss if you were not paying attention. It sits quietly along Hokianga Harbour Drive, right next to the GAS station. Small, simple, no noise, no hype. Just a cool little local café doing its thing.
☕ Our Experience at Manu
We ended up going twice, once on the 26th and again on the 27th. Same order both times, flat white and carrot cake. When a place gets it right the first time, there is no reason to change.
The staff were genuinely friendly. Not forced, not rushed. Relaxed, laid back, and very Northland. The kind of place where you feel comfortable the moment you walk in.
Now the coffee. This one surprised me. Smooth, well-balanced, not acidic at all. Exactly my style of coffee. Clean flavour, easy to drink, and consistently good across both visits.
🍰 Flat White and Carrot Cake
The flat white was solid and dependable. No bitterness, no sharp aftertaste. Just a smooth cup that you can actually enjoy without needing sugar.
The carrot cake was simple but satisfying. Moist, not overly sweet, and perfect alongside the coffee. Nothing fancy, but done right.
🌿 Why Manu Is Worth a Stop
If you are driving through Ōmāpere or exploring the Hokianga Harbour area, Manu is an easy stop that makes sense. Good coffee, friendly staff, relaxed vibe, and no pretence.

Google Reviews:

I had some with coffee in the morning then went back for some after lunch!
Coffee was also really really good, staff were super friendly putting up with my chat. Overall this place was great and I'd recommend driving the extra couple of K to here from Opononi where the coffee and service at the Cafe was terrible.
