In December 2024, I was privileged to visit the stunning Al Fateh Grand Mosque in Bahrain. This iconic mosque is a place of worship and a symbol of Bahraini hospitality and Islamic architectural beauty. The experience was incredible, and I’m excited to share it with you.

The Journey Begins
As we approached the mosque, its breathtaking architecture became increasingly visible, standing out with every passing kilometre. The closer we got, the more magnificent it appeared, setting the stage for an unforgettable visit.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the soothing call to prayer, a serene moment that perfectly complemented the mosque’s grandiosity. The reception staff welcomed us warmly at the entrance and explained that appropriate attire was required. They kindly provided my wife with traditional Muslim attire, including a head covering, ensuring we could explore this sacred site respectfully.

Hospitality at Its Best
While waiting in the reception area for our guided tour, we were offered hot tea and water—a thoughtful gesture highlighting the generosity and warmth of the Bahraini people. The comfortable waiting area allowed us to take in the beauty of our surroundings and prepare for what was to come.

An Engaging Guided Tour
Soon after, Miss Susa, our guide, arrived to take us on an English-language tour of the mosque. A dedicated volunteer, she explained that she visits the mosque every week to share its history and significance with visitors. Miss Susa’s vast knowledge and friendly demeanour made the tour engaging and enriching.

She walked us through the mosque’s expansive, towering minarets and intricate calligraphy, sharing stories about its history and cultural importance. The mosque, named after Ahmed Al Fateh, the founder of Bahrain, is one of the largest mosques in the world and can accommodate thousands of worshippers at a time.

A Reflection on Bahraini Hospitality
What truly stood out during my visit was the genuine kindness and hospitality of the Bahraini people. From the reception staff to Miss Susa, everyone we encountered was incredibly welcoming and eager to make our experience memorable. Bahrainis are undoubtedly some of the friendliest and most hospitable people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.
