Today, we came to Catalina Bay Market to look around.
No plans. No hunger. Just vibes.
And then this happened.
As we were walking past a stall called Fratelli A Taste of Italy, this lovely lady literally stopped us with a plate of samples, just bread. No toppings. I took one bite and instantly knew. Chewy, warm, deep-fried, slightly salty. That kind of bite where your brain immediately says, ” We are coming back.
So of course, we did.
What We Ordered at Fratelli A Taste of Italy
We ordered the savoury option topped with basil pesto, mascarpone, fresh basil, and chives. Fourteen dollars for a small plate, and yes, at first glance, it does look modest. But hear me out.
That bread.
Soft and airy on the inside, crispy on the outside, and soaked with flavour. The pesto hits first with its herby punch, followed by the creamy richness of the mascarpone, all balanced by the herbs’ freshness. Everything works together beautifully.
I will be honest, though. By the end, it does get a little rich. This is definitely something you savour slowly rather than smash in two minutes.
Was it worth trying? Absolutely.
It instantly reminded me of Hungarian fried bread, those elephant ears vibes, but done with a whole Italian twist. Simple, comforting, and very easy to get addicted to.
Fratelli A Taste of Italy is usually at Catalina Bay on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. With Christmas around the corner, hours might change, so it is best to check their Instagram before heading down.
Now I want to know.
Would you go savoury first… or would you start sweet?
